Blanchard No. 600 Plough (Plow) Gauge
Blanchard No. 600 Plough (Plow) Gauge
Blanchard is a French manufacturer of tools that was originally based out of Paris. This particular tool, called a plough gauge (or plow gauge) was made while they still were based in Paris and is a beautiful example of the quality of tool they produced. This tool is made for cutting straps and is marked from 0-10 centimeters. The body is brass with steel hardware and the handle is made from ebony. I don’t have an exact age on this tool but it is very easily 100 years old and likely older. This exact tool is listed in their catalog as a Number 600 and is described as a “couteau mecanique,” essentially translating as “cutting machine”. This one has been restored in a manner that I refer to as a “light restoration” in that it has not been polished and only the bare minimum has been done to get it to working order so that it many enjoy many more years of use. The ebony handle has no cracks as they sometimes do. The knife has been perfectly sharpened, it has been tuned, and it is ready to cut straps for a long time to come.
***All antique tools are sold “As-Is” due to their age. All antique tools that I sell have been checked over, repaired (if necessary), and are serviceable. Make sure to look at the photographs or ask questions, if you have any, prior to purchase.***
